I Tried So Hard To Keep It All Together

(Walking Study on Mud), 2020

34" x 84" x 96"

Cyanotype and bathwater on canvas, unraveled by hand,

mirror, wood, paint, monofilament.

A unique expression of my personal struggle with endometriosis. Featured in the center is a canvas suspended from a white frame, falling towards a large mirror. The blank canvas, the exact dimensions of my body, 72”x 27”, was soaked in my leftover bath water and laid across a mud puddle. I dipped my feet in a footbath of cyanotype and began walking back and forth for 15 minutes. The canvas was then washed in the tub I bathed the night before. As the canvas dried, I pulled the loose threads, slowly unraveling and rewarding to make something anew.

My footprints, untraceable, the canvas hangs like my skin, a hide. Threads of connective tissue. Falling away from a white frame of normalcy and confinement.
